VIL Water Must Be Seen As Sustainable

It is about time, that sustainability is also seen in the field of water management.

Currently, there is a need to meet the challenges of continuing growth. However, such growth must come at the expense of destroying the environment. Sustainable development is crucial. Water scarcity and water pollution are relevant issues in today’s world.

That is why it is time to look at companies like Vishvaraj Infrastructure Limited (VIL) who won two major awards in the sector at the recent World Water Leadership Congress & Awards. The company won the presitigious Water Reuse Project of the Year and Mr Arun Lakhani, VIL’s chairman and managing director won the award for Outstanding Contribution to Water.

For Business To Flourish, Think Of The Environment, VIL India

It is just not enough for a company to think of the environment while conducting business, but it must begin a project before thinking of the environment. One such company is VIL India (VIL) who has been leading the way, especially in areas or water, waste water and infrastructure.

Companies need to address and find solutions based and focused on larger environmental issues. The ecology of river self-rejuvenation helps a company become more effective in proposing solutions. Arun Lakhani, VIL’s chairman and director is a believer in such a policy.

Realising the importance of social awareness and creating more avenues for sportsman to grow Vishvaraj Infrastructure Limited (VIL) has decided to sponsor the talented city duo of Arundhati Pantawane and Rasika Raje, badminton players, on a long-term basis.

The company is committed to bear the expenses of travelling, lodging and boarding arrangements of both Arundhati and Rasika whenever they play national and international tournaments. VIL was the main sponsor during the state-level tournaments held in Nagpur during the last couple of years.

Such familiarity in the sport is not new as national-level badminton player Sarang Lakhani is the son of chairman and managing director of VIL, Arun Lakhani. In fact, the older Arun Lakhani has been recently co-opted as the member of the Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) executive committee.

Vishvaraj Infrastructure provides global solutions that contribute to sustainable development in the water sector through innovation in the design, construction and operation of drinking water treatment plants, distribution system reforms, etc. The Company has executed or in execution projects worth approximately Rs 27,500 million across the three sectors primarily through PPP contracting and few through EPC route.

Recently, at the World Water Leadership Congress & Awards, Vishvaraj Infrastructure Limited (VIL), won two major awards. The company won the presitigious Water Reuse Project of the Year and Mr Arun Lakhani, VIL’s chairman and managing director won the award for Outstanding Contribution to Water.

Does it not make sense for more private companies to be a part of the water industry? Firstly, the level of efficiency in private sector is much better and can be put to use in PPP model for public good. The private sector could be more useful in removing inefficiencies through private intervention and investments are better sourced.

Even the huge risk which can be averted by transferring projects from the government to the private sector. PPPs, like the one with VIL and Veolia Water can also bring new and cost effective technology for creation of infrastructure, managerial efficiency, competency for operation and maintenance and the contractual accountability.

In fact, it is fair to say that all the government systems have fallen short  to deliver the desired level of service to citizens due to lack of accountability. PPPs will automatically bring accountability of the private entity. After all, a private entity brings in the investment with a long term commitment for the project.
